i can’t swim – and i’m an adult.

i can’t swim.
i shall define “can’t swim” in becky terms.

can’t float.

can’t tread water for more than… 15 seconds.

can’t go into the deep end without thinking I AM GOING TO DIE!

what i do love though – are those pools that are exactly 5 feet deep all the way across.  why?  because i’m exactly 5 feet (okay, more like 4’11” and 3/4) and can touch the bottom to give myself just enough boost to bob up and down around the pool.  this is where i feel my “coolest” cause i’m in a pool with just enough height to justify a great time without having that lingering fear in the back of my head that at any moment – i will die.

but will i…

go into the ocean?

yes, most definitely!
just…
only to knee height.
or with a life jacket on.
or clung to mohawks body.

with the end of summer fast approaching – go – GO NOW! – and jump in.
water wings and life preservers are optional.

do you know how to swim?  how did you learn?  let me know in the comments below!

  1. I used to wear armbands as a kid, I wouldn’t take them off and learn to swim because I was scared.
I had lesson at school between 11-13 and had to use a kick board there, but I still didn’t learn, they were more interested in the kids on the swim team.
Anyway at 13 my dad threw away my armbands because I was starting big school.
So I haven’t bothered going swimming since, now I’m 18 and still can’t swim.
Probably should have learnt when I was younger.

    1. there’s always still time i say! : )
kick boards!!! ahhh, i hadn’t thought of those in ages! i do recall those! i took swimming lessons as a kid too but clearly did not learn like i wanted to. i remember eating one ketchup chip before going in the water and (how embarrassing) puked in the pool. ya – not a highlight. looking back, i feel like this is the reason i quit the lessons. but who knows. thanks for checking out the blog Tim! cheers.
